Gas/Electric Franchise Fees Coming for Charles City Customers

Franchise fees are coming for all MidAmerican Energy gas and electric customers in Charles City.

That’s City Administrator Steve Diers, who reiterated to the City Council Wednesday (01.17) night that the franchise fees are needed revenue generators for City operations.

The third and final reading of the ordinance was approved on a 3-0 vote, with councilmen Keith Starr and DeLaine Freeseman absent Wednesday night.

The franchise fee will be set at 5% of the gross revenue generated from the sale of natural gas and/or electricity by MidAmerican Energy.

The franchise fee will be included within the renewals of the gas and electric franchise contract between MidAmerican Energy and the City.
