Floyd County Officials to Step Up Education in Advance of Second EMS Tax Levy Vote

Establishing a public ambulance in Floyd County won’t come cheap and making it a reality won’t likely come without passage of an EMS tax levy.
In November 2022, an EMS tax levy that would have generated over $550,000 for 10 years for Floyd County EMS providers failed.
Charles City councilman Patrick Lumley, also chair of the Floyd County EMS Advisory Council, says they look to learn from that experience before putting another measure before voters.
Lumley says part of that education will include a compilation of the ambulance calls across the County over the last year-and-a-half.
The EMS Advisory Council hopes that public education pays off as they look towards a vote this September.
Passage of an EMS tax levy could help Charles City/Floyd County develop its own ambulance service, but Lumley also notes that ambulance services from Marble Rock, Nora Springs and Greene stand to also benefit from the funds generated.
Lumley adds that the EMS Advisory Council will follow the lead of the Ambulance Commission as to what the EMS tax levy rate will look like. The Council would then make a recommendation to the Floyd County Board of Supervisors, who will have the final say on whether to put the measure on the ballot this fall.
