New Hampton to Host High School State Qualifying Bowling Tournaments

High school bowlers will be looking to advance to state through district qualifying tournaments this week.

Among the host sites for Class 2A Districts Monday (02.12) and Tuesday (02.130 is Bowlaway Lanes in New Hampton, quite an accomplishment according to owner Laura Novak.

Chad Novak said a host site needs to have the capacity for seating, plus food and beverage for bowlers and fans, and show they want to host.

Chad says they’re also looking to host more tournaments at the Comet Bowl in Charles City, which they took ownership of just over a year ago. He says remodeling changes there, including new synthetic floors, have been well received by bowlers.

The Comet Bowl will host Iowa Games bowling this summer. Last month they hosted the Northeast Iowa Conference tournaments with Charles City winning the girls title.

The Comet bowlers will look to qualify for state out of the Class 2A Districts at Locomotion Lanes in Sanborn.

Teams competing at Bowlaway Lanes include New Hampton, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Denver and Oelwein.

Girls district competition is Monday (02.12) with the boys on Tuesday (02.13).  Bowling both days starts at 10 am.
