New Hampton School District Considers Conference Options

About 50 people attended a community meeting Tuesday (02.13) night about conference realignment for the New Hampton School District.

Superintendent Jay Jurrens hosted the session to inform the public and gather feedback surrounding the future of Chickasaws in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) versus joining the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC).

Jurrens notes that leaving for the UIC wasn’t the only option on the table.

Jurrens adds that the UIC also offers non-athletic opportunities including a music festival for choir students, an honor band, speech and art festivals; a lot of things similar to the NEIC, with the addition of speech. He said those activities are just as important to the kids that are involved in them”

The New Hampton School Board is expected vote on the matter at Monday’s (02.19) regular monthly meeting.
