Possible Threat to New Hampton High School Deemed Not Credible

A possible school threat in New Hampton has been deemed as not credible.

New Hampton Police Chief Tim Pederson says the New Hampton Community School District contacted NHPD Sunday (02.25) night about a possible threat to the school. He says the incident occurred off school property and, while the possible threat was vague in nature, it was “taken very seriously due to the safety of our children. “

After a thorough investigation, it was learned that there was no actual threat to the school.

In a letter notifying families in the school district of what transpired, Superintendent Jay Jurrens said online comments indicated a threat directed towards the high school. He added that “in an abundance of caution, we will have an increased law enforcement presence throughout the district buildings the rest of today (Monday).

Jurrens also offered a reminder that “if you see or hear something, please, say something to law enforcement or school staff so that it can be investigated.”

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol also assisted with the investigation.
