Great “Tractor Turnout” for Oliver/White Farm Reunion in Charles City

It was a great “tractor turnout” Thursday (02.29) in Charles City.

The Oliver/White Farm tractor plant in Charles City closed in 1993. Some 31 years later, upwards of 100 former employees gathered for a nostalgic look back during an informal get-together at Dave’s Restaurant.

Organizer Duane Kilby worked at the plant for 32 years.

Kilby says he believes that the plant made Charles City.

The entire plant, which once sprawled across 23 acres on the north side of Charles City, has been completely gone for several years. Still, Kilby says it makes him want to cry now and then.

Kilby, along with Dick Neal, put the informal reunion together Thursday and both were amazed by the number of those who came out to reminisce.

Kilby says plans for additional gatherings are being considered.
