Floyd County Burn Ban Remains in Effect, for Now

While the forecast includes for rain on Friday (03.08), a burn ban remains in effect in Floyd County.

The burn ban has been in place since noon March 1st after Floyd County Emergency Management Director Jason Webster submitted the County’s request with the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Ben Chatfield with the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department says any burn ban is a collaborative consideration across the County.

Chatfield says violations of the burn ban are subject to a fine.

Chatfield adds that, even if the County receives significant rain Friday to lift the burn ban, don’t be surprised if it’s not the last burn ban in the coming months.

Last fall, Floyd County was under a burn ban from September 7th to October 16th due to the extreme drought. Conditions have not changed much since then, with the latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa issued Thursday (03.07) showing extreme drought persists in all or most of Chickasaw, Floyd, Mitchell, Howard, Fayette, Bremer, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Cerro Gordo, Winneshiek, Franklin, Benton and Linn counties.
