City of Fayette Police Chief to Depart

The City of New Hampton isn’t the only northeast Iowa community searching for a new police chief.

In a Facebook post last week, City of Fayette Police Chief Benjamin Davis announced that he had accepted a conditional offer to become the new Chief of Police for the City of Manchester.  Davis will replace retiring MPD Chief Jim Hauschild.

In his letter to the Citizens of Fayette, Davis said, “First and foremost, I want to thank the community for supporting me during my tenure as an officer, then chief for the City of Fayette. I took over with new ideas and policies with the vision of getting away from small town law enforcement, and having the agency recognized as a legitimate agency in Iowa.”

He added, “I believe the department is set up for success in their future endeavors. Know that I am fortunate to have started my leadership role here and Fayette will forever hold a spot in my heart.”

Davis says his final day as Fayette Police Chief will be May 24th.

The City of New Hampton is looking to hire a new police chief after Tim Pederson resigned mid-April amid controversy over an off-duty incident. The NHPD also must replace Officer Doug Eagan, who resigned less than two weeks after he was named interim chief. After Eagan departs Wednesday (05.08), Officer Chad McGee is expected to be named interim chief.

City Clerk Karen Clemons said two police chief applications had been received as of the Friday (05.03) deadline.

The NHPD has added a certified officer after Cory Frank completed police academy training last month. He is currently on ride-along status with other officers and could be on his own in a few weeks.
