Law Enforcement to Crack Down on St. Patrick’s Drunk Driving

With the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend upon us, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) and law enforcement agencies across Iowa are reminding motorists that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

Trooper Tom Williams is with the Iowa State Patrol district office in Mason City. He says St. Patrick’s Day one of the deadliest holiday periods of the year.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office is also participating in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP), with Sheriff Ryan Shawver encouraging a responsible approach to your celebrations.

Williams adds that there’s also a special statewide program available this weekend to get home safely.

While there will be extra law enforcement presence on the roads this week, Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson hopes his officers aren’t making frequent arrests.

The Floyd and Howard County Sheriff’s Offices, plus West Union, Cresco and Osage police departments are also participating in sTEP, which will continue through Tuesday (03.19).
