Charles City Theater Students to Participate in State Showcase Thursday (05.30) Night

A pair of Charles City students are among the hundreds of Iowa high school theater students from across the state who have been rehearsing at the Des Moines Civic Center for Thursday (05.30) night’s final performance of the annual Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase.Â
Broadway actress Ryann Redmond is hosting the show, which she says comes at the favorite time of year for the high school performers.
Redmond adds that the showcase celebrates more than just the theater students.
Blake Hoeft and Savannah Baldus will represent Charles City by performing in a collaborative inter-school medley led by a guest Broadway music director and choreographer. The Charles City High School theater department is also slated to receive a couple of awards for their production of Godspell last November, including Production Award: Distinguished scene – “Turn Back O’ Man†and Special Recognition for Performance in a Principal Role – Blake Hoeft as “Nick/Thomas Aquinas.â€Â
The showcase will begin at 7 pm Thursday night and it’ll be live streamed online statewide through Iowa P-B-S.
The two winners from the showcase will also represent Iowa at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City for ten days, culminating with the Jimmy Awards on June 24th at 6:30 PM at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre.
