A sentencing date has been set for a former Charles City resident found guilty last week of murdering a Nashua man over 11-and-a-half years ago.Â
After deliberating just over an hour on Thursday (05.23), a Chickasaw County jury returned a guilty verdict on one count of murder in the first degree against 51-year-old Randy Patrie for killing 70-year-old Carl Kenneth Gallmeyer of Nashua, on or about September 25, 2012.Â
Patrie was the primary suspect, however, before local officials could proceed, he was sentenced in 2014 to life in federal prison on felony firearms charges and for being a career criminal. But in 2018, Patrie was resentenced to 20 years in federal prison and Chickasaw County was able to resume efforts to prosecute him.
That’s Chickasaw County Attorney David Laudner, who says the conviction of Patrie was a long time coming.
Laudner says a plea deal was never an option for Patrie, who did not testify during his trial.
He is now scheduled to be sentenced on July 2nd in Chickasaw County District Court.
In the meantime, Patrie continues to be held in the Fayette County Jail in West Union, where he has resided since being returned to northeast Iowa for prosecution in January 2022.
