Contested Primary Races in Chickasaw, Mitchell, Fayette Counties, Polls Open Until 8 pm
Polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm Tuesday (06.04) for party-line voting in the June Primary elections.Â
In Floyd County, neither District 1 Supervisor Mark Kuhn nor District 3 Supervisor Jim Jorgensen is seeking re-election with their terms ending December 31st. The only person to file for the Primary for either post is Boyd Campbell, who is running for Jorgensen’s seat. The Republican is unopposed Tuesday. There is also no Democrat on the ballot.
As it stands, District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer will be the lone holdover, but. whoever’s on the Board to start 2025 will be working with a new County Auditor, with current Auditor Gloria Carr to retire when her term ends December 31st. Democrat Liz Hamm and Republican Morrigan Miller running to replace Carr, with both unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.
The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors will have at least one new member to start 2025. Fourth District Supervisor Matt Kuhn will not seek re-election, with Terry Johnson and Isaac Carter, both Republicans, registered for the primary. Whoever wins Tuesday could be unopposed in November’s election with no Democratic candidates on the primary ballot.
Current Third District Supervisor Jacob Hackman seeks another term and is the only Republican for the primary, with Joan Knoll the sole candidate on the Democratic side.
In Mitchell County, two Republicans vie for the District 2 Supervisor seat, with incumber Jim Wherry being challenged by Al WintersÂ
In Fayette County, there are two Republicans on the primary ballot for sheriff; longtime incumbent Marty Fisher, seeking a seventh term, is being challenged by Paul Becthold, who has been West Union Police Chief since 2017.
Among the more wide-reaching contested races in Tuesday’s Primary, incumbent Waylon Brown is being challenged by Doug Campbell on the Republican ticket for State Senate District 30. Democrat Richard Lorence is unopposed for the primary. Also facing competition in the primary is Republican District 60 State Senator Jane Bloomingdale, with John Rosenfield challenging the incumbent. There is no Democrat for the primary.
House District 58 State Representative Charley Thomson is seeking re-election, but he’s unopposed on the Republican ballot Tuesday. He is expected to face a challenger in the November general election with Democrat Gail Allison running unopposed in the primary.
