City of New Hampton Hosts Meet & Greet with New Police Chief Monday

The New Hampton community is invited to “Meet and Greet” its new Police Chief.

On June 17th, the City Council approved the hiring of Conrad Rosendahl as their next Chief of Police. Rosendahl has been the Police Chief in Lansing for the past five years and has been in law enforcement since 2007. He will start leading the NHPD on Monday and the City will host a reception for him Monday from 4 to 6 pm at the Community Center.

Mayor Steve Geerts said hiring Rosendahl is a “big relief” for the City as it capped an eventful past couple of months.

In mid-April, former Police Chief Tim Pederson resigned amid controversy following an off-duty incident the City said did not meet the expectations of a police chief’s position. Officer Doug Eagan was named interim chief, but he himself resigned a little over a week later after almost 16 years with the NHPD. Officer Chad McGee has been interim chief since May 9th.

A petition with some 600 signatures to get Pederson reinstated was presented to the Council on May 6th, but they opted to continue the hiring process. The City then hoped to extend a contract offer during its May 20th meeting, but Geerts said an “unforeseen situation” put that on hold. On June 3rd, the Council approved to advertise for the position again before hiring Rosendahl two weeks later.

NHPD is still short one officer with applications being accepted until the position is filled.
