Roger Arends, 82, of Charles City

Roger Arends, 82, of Charles City, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

A memorial service for Roger will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Deacon Beth Hurt from St. John Evangelical Church officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00p.m. until the start of the service on Saturday.

Roger James Arends, the son of Jans and Etta (Deraad) Arends, was born on October 15, 1941, in Clarksville, Iowa. He attended school at Marble Rock through the 10th grade and later received his GED. Roger was united in marriage to Edna DeGeus on June 17, 1962. To this union, three children were born: Julie, Debbie, and Jerry. The couple later divorced.

Roger worked at Brick/Tile in Rockford for 4 years, then worked for Shield Banton in Waverly and finally for 20 years at White Farm until their closing.  Roger was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and also attended Bethany Alliance Church. He was also a member of UAW Local. Roger enjoyed watching NASCAR, taking care of his lawn and garden, and in his younger years, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending many family gatherings. Roger loved his cat, Missy, and she held a special place in his heart.

Living family members include his children: Julie (Art) Hofman of Urbandale, Debbie (Brian) Finnegan of Ionia, and Jerry (Lori) Arends of Nevada; grandchildren: Ryan (Kerry) Hofman, Alek Hofman, Patrick (Laura) Finnegan, Joshua Finnegan, Megan (Auston) Mohlis, Jodi (Tyler) Arends, Kevin Arends, and Tyler Arends; great-grandchildren: Eleanor, Daniel, Adeline, Kyleena, Nadia, Vivienna, Alessandra, Greyson, Emmalyn, and Ila; brothers: Elmer Arends and Gary Arends; sisters: Edna King, and Mary Jane Pickett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nicholas Finnegan; great-grandson, Kallum Mohlis; brothers: Siebe Arends, John Arends, and Donald Arends; and sisters: Elizabeth Tegtmeier and Esther Green.
