Mitchell Mill Dam Project to Begin Fall 2024

The Mitchell County Conservation Board (MCCB) says repairs to the upstream side of the powerhouse at the Mitchell Dam will begin this Fall.
The Board has obtained approval for a temporary license amendment to lower the reservoir as part of this project. The reservoir will be lowered at a rate of one foot per day starting on September 11th and is expected to take 12-to-14 days to reach the desired levels. The repairs to the powerhouse will officially start on October 1, 2024, and are projected to last three to six weeks.
MCCB says refilling of the reservoir will commence upon completion of the repairs, during which a minimum outflow on the downstream side of the powerhouse will be maintained. The duration of the refilling process will depend on precipitation once it begins.
Aquatic users must prepare to remove boats with the river level being lowered, potentially causing unachievable ramp access. Individuals planning to conduct work along the shoreline of private property may need to acquire the necessary permits.
Once the repairs to the powerhouse are complete, the MCCB must begin refilling the reservoir.
