Half Dozen North Iowa State Legislators Achieve 100% Voting Record from NFIB

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) of Iowa announced Friday that 69 state legislators — 28 members of the Senate and 41 members of the House — achieved a 100% NFIB Voting Record in the 2023-24 session.

NFIB State Director Matt Everson said, “These legislators know that small businesses are the backbone of the Hawkeye state. If they want Iowa to be successful then they must support Main Street. I applaud these pro-small business legislators for prioritizing policies that allow Iowans to own, operate, and grow their businesses.”

The 2023-24 NFIB Voting Record does not reflect every element considered by lawmakers when voting, nor does it represent a complete profile of the legislators. The voting record includes ten key votes in both chambers on issues important to small businesses including tax relief, lawsuit reform, and regulations. It does not factor in that many of these legislators supported small businesses in committees, as well.

State Senators with 100% voting records on NFIB legislation include District 30’s Waylon Brown of Mitchell County, District 28’s Dennis Guth of Hancock County, and District 32’s Mike Klimesh of Winneshiek County. The NFIB says District 29 State Senator Sandy Salmon of Bremer County had an 80% voting record on their issues.

State Representatives with 100% voting records on NFIB issues include District 63s Michael Bergan Of Winneshiek County, District 57’s Pat Grassley of Butler County, and District 55’s Shannon Latham of Franklin County. Chad Ingels of Fayette County and Charley Thomson of Floyd County had 90% and 80% NFIB voting records respectively during the 2024 legislative session.
