Northeast Iowans Score $20,000 in Lottery Winnings

A pair of northeast Iowans have recently scored a combined $20,000 in Iowa Lottery winnings.
The Lottery says 65-year-old Joe Brennan of Osage won $10,000 with his “Beat the Heat” scratch ticket purchased at Casey’s on Main Street in Osage.
Winning came at just the right time for Brennan, who learned earlier this summer about his workplace’s upcoming closure, creating uncertainty for his future. He told Lottery officials, “September 1, I will be unemployed and that’ll help me out quite a bit to get by.”
Beat the Heat is a $10 scratch game featuring six top prizes of $100,000. Through September 25th, players can enter non-winning tickets into the “Beat the Heat, Win the Cash” promotion for a chance to win one of 20 prizes of $10,000.
Allen Stern of Waverly won a $10,000 Mega Millions prize in early July, which he celebrated right there in a grocery store parking lot.
Stern, who manages a bar and restaurant, said, “I got out of my truck, did a little dance, and went into work.”
He purchased his winning ticket at a Hy-Vee in Ankeny and matched four of the first five numbers in the July 5th drawing to win $10,000.
