Northeast Iowa Woman to Serve Up to 30 Years in Prison for of Attacking Husband with Swords
A northeast Iowa woman could serve up to three decades in prison for attacking her husband with a pair of swords.
In January 2023, 60-year-old Kim Cannon of Hawkeye was arrested for attempted murder, a Class B felony, after she was accused of striking her husband with the swords, causing large lacerations and cuts to the back of his head and to his face, including one through an eye socket.
According to the criminal complaint, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) found Cannon covered in blood on the kitchen floor of the residence with two bloody swords lying next to her.
After initially pleading not guilty, then indicating she would use a defense of insanity and diminished responsibility, Cannon on Tuesday (08.06) agreed to plead guilty to three counts of willful injury causing serious injury, all Class C felonies.
On Wednesday (08.07), Cannon was sentenced to serve up to 10 years in prison on each count, to be served consecutively. FCSO was then ordered to transport Cannon to the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville.
