North Iowa Law Agencies Join in High-Visibility Traffic Enforcement Campaign Through Labor Day

Several North Iowa law agencies are participating in a high-visibility traffic enforcement project from Friday (08.16) through Labor Day (09.02).
Tom Williams with the Mason City District Office of the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says they’ll look to crack down on impaired driving at one of the deadliest times of the year.
Additionally, there were 54 traffic fatalities in Iowa during the final weeks of summer last year with 44% involving driver impairment, according to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB).
The Charles City, New Hampton and West Unionpolice departments, as well as the Floyd and Chickasaw County sheriff’s offices are among those partnering with the ISP and the GTSB in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to remove impaired drivers and motorcycle riders from the road.
