More Police-Related Items Again on New Hampton City Council Agenda for Tuesday (09.03)

The New Hampton City Council will again see various police department items for consideration during their 7 pm meeting Tuesday (09.03) night.
New Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl is asking the Council to hire Dylan Walleser as a full-time officer to start this Friday. Walleser has been employed by the MarMac Police Department and graduated from Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on August 16th.
The City will reimburse the MarMac PD for Walleser’s academy expenses, while Walleser will pay back the City of New Hampton for their cost. As a result of that. Rosendahl is also asking the Council to approve the structure of a new agreement that will require officers who leave the NHPD in similar circumstances to pay back the City for academy training expenses.
It’s the latest in a series of proposals by Rosendahl, who took over as New Hampton Police Chief July 1st.
During the July 15th Council meeting, Darby Stone was approved as a police officer and he joined the force in August.
On August 5th, the City Council approved the purchase of police body cameras and tasers, which Rosendahl said are needed to update existing older and poorly performing equipment.
On August 19th, the Council approved Rosendahl’s request to earn comp time only when his working hours exceed 90 hours in a pay period, strictly an hour for an hour basis.
The City also recently hired Mar-Mac Chief of Police Robert Millin and Troy Riehm, a certified officer employed with an emergency medical service, as part-time “on call” officers.
