FCMC’s Regular Emergency Room Entrance Closing Monday (09.09)

A $40 million expansion of Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) will mean a change in how patients access the Charles City hospital’s emergency room (ER).

Starting this Monday (09.09), FCMC’s regular ER entrance will be closed to construct a new entrance with a new feature.

That’s Makenzie McNeil, FCMC Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, who says construction of the new ER entrance is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

In the meantime, McNeil says ER patients will use the same entrance on the 13th Street side of the hospital that patients have been using since late July when FCMC’s regular hospital entrance and rotunda were closed permanently due to the expansion project. She adds that there will also be a new designated area for ER patient parking.

Once inside, McNeil says a staff member will be on duty to specifically guide patients to the ER. In the event they are busy helping other patients, there is also a red phone dedicated to calling the ER.

A map of the changes at FCMC are available with this story on our station website or visit https://www.fcmc.us.com/ for the most timely construction updates.
