The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) has approved a construction permit for Summit Carbon Solutions’ proposed hazardous liquid pipeline across Iowa.
That initial permit is for the company’s original “main line” underground carbon capture pipeline, including a branch that starts with the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton. The pipeline would then be built west through Chickasaw and Floyd counties, connect with the Golden Grain Energy ethanol plant near Mason City, and continue through Cerro Gordo, Hancock and Kossuth counties.
The IUC is now holding public informational sessions on a separate permit by Summit to add ethanol plants previously associated with the Navigator CO2 Ventures carbon pipeline, which pulled its application last October. Plants include Valero Renewables near Charles City and Lakota, Absolute Energy near St. Ansgar, and Poet Bioprocessing near Shell Rock, Fairbank, and Hanlontown.
For the next week, the IUC will focus public info sessions across north and northeast Iowa, starting with a 6 pm meeting Monday (09.09) night in Buchanan County at the American Legion in Hazleton. Tuesday (09.10), the IUC and Summit reps will be in Fayette County at the Oelwein Coliseum in Oelwein from noon to 2 pm and then in Bremer County from 6 to 8 pm at The Centre Hall in Waverly.
On Wednesday (09.11), info meetings will be held in Butler County from noon to 2 pm at the Community Center in Greene and then in Floyd County from 6 to 8 pm in the Swartzrock Community Center on the Floyd County Fairgrounds.
Additional public information sessions are also scheduled in Mitchell and Worth counties on Thursday (09.12), in Hancock County on Friday (09.13), and in Kossuth County next Monday (09.16).
