Drought Conditions Creep Back into Northeast Iowa

Drought conditions have crept back into Northeast Iowa, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map for Iowa.

Based on precipitation through 7 am Tuesday, September 17, all of Clayton County and the majority of Fayette County, are rated in the D1 category for moderate drought. The southwest third of Allamakee County, the southern half of Winneshiek County, extreme southeast corner of Chickasaw County, and a small northeast section of Bremer County are also considered to be in moderate drought.

The remainder of Chickasaw, Fayette, Winneshiek, Bremer and Allamakee counties, plus all of Floyd, Butler, Mitchell, Howard, Cerro Gordo, Worth, Franklin, Grundy counties are rated in the DO category for being abnormally dry. 

Two-thirds of Black Hawk County was considered abnormally dry the week before. This week, the entire county is rated abnormally dry, as is about 90% of the state as a whole.
