UPDATE: Traffic, Parking on North Main Street in Charles City Fully Restored

Traffic and parking on North Main Street in Charles City has been restored.
Heartland Asphalt applied the final layer of 1.5 inches of new asphalt to the east lanes of Main Street on Tuesday (10.08) and, on Wednesday (10.09), crews applied the final layer of another 1.5 inches of new asphalt on the west lanes of Main Street.
Jason Petersburg with Veenstra & Kimm, the project managers, informed the City Council Monday (10.07) night that paving would be completed by the end of the day on Wednesday.
With the striping of the new pavement completed on both sides of the street, traffic in both directions and parking access on both sides of Main Street was opened back up Thursday (10.10) morning, from the intersection with Gilbert Street north to the newly reconfigured North Main/North Grand intersection.
Charles City Water and Street Superintendent Cory Spieker says traffic control lights on Main Street should be back to normal operation Thursday as the contractors pick up all signage. The City is waiting on a controller for the Hulin and Main Street intersection, so traffic lights there will continue to flash until the controller is received and installed.
