Manhole Casting Work on Main Street in Charles City to Wrap This Week

Manhole adjustments, part of the Main Street rehabilitation in Charles City, will continue this week.

Bill Ries with Veenstra & Kimm, managers of the some-$2 million project, says crews began adjusting sewer manhole castings last week and should wrap up that work by the middle of this week. While that will mean some localized street closures, access and parking will be maintained to the greatest extent possible. Through traffic on Main Street will be maintained at all times.

Ries adds that, after the manhole adjustment work is complete, contractors will begin final clean up operations. During the week of November 4th the remainder of paint and pavement markings and signage will be completed.

The current plan is also to either dormant seed the disturbed turf areas in November or wait and perform seeding work in the spring.

Heartland Asphalt put the final layer of new asphalt on the street October 9th and the street was returned to full access for vehicles and pedestrians the morning of October 10th.
