New Hampton Schools Push for Student Work Experience Paying Dividends

The New Hampton School District is exceeding state averages in getting students prepared for life outside the classroom.
During Monday (11.18) night’s School Board meeting, Superintendent Jay Jurrens highlighted areas of achievement within the district based on the latest Iowa School Performance Profiles.
In the category of “post-secondary readiness index – college credit,” New Hampton’s success was rated at just over 74, with the state average just under 69. In “post-secondary readiness index for work-based learning,” New Hampton rated at 59, more than twice the state average of 25.
Jurrens says area businesses are seeing the results of that push.
In other “readiness” categories, New Hampton’s four-year graduation rate is just over 91%, with the state average at 87%, and the district’s five-year graduation rate of almost 93% exceeded the state average of just under 90%.
