Compromise Reached with AMR for Purchase of Floyd County 911 Radios, Pagers
A $5 million overhaul of Floyd County’s 911 system equipment will also get the County on the statewide 911 ISICS network, improving communications between the various law enforcement and emergency agencies across the county.
However, all entities involved need radios and pagers to be compatible with the new system, which comes with a cost.
During their board meeting Monday (11.25) morning, Floyd County Supervisors again took up the issue of how to pay for equipment to connect AMR Ambulance to the network. Auditor Gloria Carr led discussions with AMR reps over a quote last week of about $42,000 for the necessary radios and pagers.
Carr learned that AMR could make $5,000 available for equipment purchases that wouldn’t require the company to adjust their current fiscal year budget, which opened the door for a compromise.
In the end, Supervisors approved up to $23,000 from the 911 project funds to pay for eighth radios and 15 pagers for AMR, with the ambulance reimbursing the County for the pagers, paying $5,000 now and another $5,000 next March.
The County will own the radios, but AMR will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance.
