Floyd County Officials to Discuss Failed EMS Tax Levy

Last month, a tax levy to generate a dedicated funding source for emergency medical services (EMS) in Floyd County failed to pass for the second time in two years.

The latest version of the tax levy could have raised up to $670,000 a year for five years in support of EMS, including the four entities that supply ambulance service in the county: Nora Springs and Greene ambulances, Marble Rock First Responders and AMR.

In the wake of the latest tax levy defeat, the Floyd County EMS Advisory Council sought public feedback on their efforts to educate voters in advance of the election through an online survey that ended Monday (12.09).

That’s Floyd County Supervisor Mark Kuhn during Monday’s (12.09) Board meeting, who argued that Supervisors should have a bigger role in addressing the EMS issue moving forward.

Kuhn added that “what-to-do” next requires an in-depth look from more angles.

Kuhn, whose term ends December 31st, expressed his wishes to be part of that conversation while he’s still in office. Because the topic was not on their agenda, Supervisors could take no action, but they agreed that they’ll likely push for a special meeting on the matter yet this month.
