$4.7 Million Contract Awarded for City Hall, PD Renovations in Charles City

A Forest City company has been awarded the contract for renovations to City Hall and the police department in Charles City.
The City received three bids for the project, estimated at over $5 million total, with the City Council Monday (12.16) voting unanimously to approve the low bid of just over $4.7 million to Kingland Construction.
Councilman Patrick Lumley says the time has come for City facilities to be upgraded.
Councilman DeLaine Freeseman isn’t thrilled about the price tag, but agrees the renovations are much needed.
Now that the contract for the project has been awarded, City Administrator Steve Diers says relocation of City operations is set to begin.
City Hall offices will temporarily relocate to 507 Clark Street during the renovation project, though Diers notes some items will be stored at 813 North Main Street. The Charles City Police Department will call 623 Beck Street their temporary home.
While City Hall will be a temporary address during the makeover, it’s also in line for a new permanent address, along with the Charles City Public Library.
The current City Hall address is 103 Milwaukee Street, but when entered into GPS, it often takes people to the Community Center, officially listed at 900 Hulin Street in Charles City.
