Relocation of City of Charles City Operations in Earnest Thursday, Friday

After Tuesday (12.31), offices at City Hall in Charles City will be closed the rest of the week.
City Hall will be closed Wednesday (01.1) for the New Year’s Day holiday, but will also shut down Thursday (01.02) and Friday (01.02) to move operations to their temporary location at 507 Clark Street, due to the City Hall renovation project.
That’s Mayor Dean Andrews, who reminds citizens the renovation also means a temporary location for the Charles City Police Department (CCPD).
CCPD will call the former USDA building at 623 Beck Street their temporary home during the City Hall makeover, which is expected to take at least a year-and-a-half.
Earlier this month, the City awarded the contract for the renovations to Kingland Construction of Forest City, at just over $4.7 million. With design services and other associated work, the project’s total cost could be around $5.5 million. The City will utilize about $1.2 million in ARPA funds towards the cost.
The City notes that the utilities payment drop box on the west side of City Hall will continue to be available during the renovation. City Hall will be open for business at 507 Clark Street starting Monday (01.06) .
