New Tower for Floyd County 911 System Almost Complete
In July 2023, Floyd County Supervisors approved a $5 million overhaul of the County’s current 911 system equipment, which had become too costly to constantly repair. Officials noted there are also holes in signal coverage.
Upgrades to address those issues include the erection of a new communications tower southwest of Rockford, which will also get Floyd County on the statewide 911 ISICS network.
Floyd County Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Webster provided Supervisors an update on the project during their Board meeting December 23rd, noting the recent additions of flashing FAA beacons to the new tower.
Webster says fencing around the tower still needs to be installed as well as antennas at the top of the 300-foot structure.
After the tower site is completed, Webster says they’ll be down to the bottom of their checklist.
Webster says he hopes the tower and new system will be ready to go live by the end of January, if not sooner.
