Summit Voluntary Easements for Carbon Pipeline Hold at 92% in Chickasaw County
In June 2024, the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) approved a construction permit for the mainline of Summit Caron Solutions’ underground carbon capture pipeline, with one branch starting at the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant between Lawler and New Hampton.
Tuesday (01.14.25), Chickasaw County supervisors got an update on the project from Summit representative Kaylee Langrell, who said the company has voluntary easements for 92% of landowners along the 20 miles of pipeline that will stretch through the county.
The IUC approval gives Summit the power to use eminent domain to acquire the remaining easements, a last resort according to Langrell.
In advance of any construction, Langrell says Summit will also be providing each county along the route and emergency response grant.
Langrell also noted that Summit is providing dispersion models to elected officials and EMA directors who request them.
Meanwhile, Summit is still in the IUC permitting process to add ethanol plants formerly with Navigator CO2 Ventures carbon pipeline project into the fold, including Valero Renewables near Charles City and Poet Bioprocessing near Shell Rock and Fairbank.
They also want to add Absolute Energy near Saint Ansgar.
