Charles City School Officials Mull Four-Day School Week

For the 2024-25 school year, 18 Iowa school districts are operating on a four-day school week.
During the January 13th Charles City School Board meeting, Board vice-president Josh Mack said he was approached by a stakeholder about the concept.
Board president Bruce Koebrick said he’s had conversations with staff about the idea.
Superintendent Brian Burnight added that a four-day school week would likely help with teacher recruitment, but it’s too early to tell its impact on teacher retention. He said it would also require a switch in school scheduling.
Mack also suggested the formation of a task force to explore the concept further. However, since the item was not on the agenda, the School Board could not take any action on anything related to the topic.
