...SIGNIFICANT BLOWING SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING...

.Very strong winds will develop Tuesday evening with the
strong wind gusts persisting into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts over
50 mph are expected. Much of the area has 6 inches or more of snow
on the ground. While there may be an initial crust on the top layer
of the snow, it will erode quickly leading to significant blowing and
drifting of snow. Near white-out and blizzard conditions may occur.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Light snow and snow showers
are possible. Winds gusts over 50 mph are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest,
and west central Iowa.

* WHEN...From late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Whiteout conditions are
possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially nearly
impossible and life-threatening. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down
tree branches.

Instructions: Prepare for possible blizzard conditions. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

Mary Bigelow, 91, Decorah, formerly Charles City

Mary Bigelow, 91, of Decorah, formerly Charles City, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at WinnMed in Decorah.

A memorial service for Mary Bigelow will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will be livestreamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page.  Inurnment will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be one hour before the memorial service at the funeral home on Monday.

Mary Anne (Foley) Bigelow, the oldest daughter of Michael J. and Mary Alice (Ford) Foley, was born August 26, 1933, in Ames, Iowa.  She received her education in Nevada, Iowa, graduating from Nevada High School.

Mary was united in marriage to LeRoy M. Bigelow on September 14, 1953, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada.  The couple moved to Charles City in 1955 where they raised their family.

Mary enjoyed having coffee with friends and spending time with her family.  She worked very hard at keeping a well-maintained household and was a wonderful mother and caretaker for her family and home.  Mary also worked with Floyd County Home Health Care from 1988 to 1992.  She loved to listen to music, especially Elvis, and attended many concerts. Her favorite concert, of course, was seeing Elvis in 1976. Mary was a very kind and generous lady, with her last act of giving being a donor with Iowa Donor Network.

Living family members include her four children:  Denice (Loren) Goodrich of Plymouth, Michigan, Nancy (Bruce) Biekert of Nashua, Jolene (Mike) Gesing of Postville, and Bill (JoEllen) Bigelow of Urbandale; five grandchildren:  Joshua (Kim) Biekert, Kim (Geoff Hancock) Goodrich, Brian Goodrich, Jessica Bigelow and Carly Jo Bigelow; five great-grandchildren:  Haley, Heidi and Henry Biekert and Juliana and Avery Hancock; siblings:  Louise Amenson, Pat Olsson, Leonard (Patty) Foley, Margaret (Steve) Westvold, Barbara (Brad Fregger) Foley, Thomas (Ginger) Foley and Teresa (Lauren) Olson; in-laws:  Rita Foley, Nadine Barela and Ralph Bigelow; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; siblings:  Charles Foley, Edward Foley, John Foley and Janice (Rodger) Cannon; and in-laws:  Argyll Amenson and Stanley Olsson.
