Bridge Construction Continues Through Winter in Waverly, Lansing

Despite winter weather, a pair of major bridge projects continue to move forward in Northeast Iowa.
Still, Pete Hjelmstad, with the Mason City District of the Iowa DOT, says it can be hard to tell with the new Highway 3 bridge over the Cedar River in Waverly, while most activity is in or under the water, and/or underground
Meanwhile, Hjelmstad says the new Black Hawk Bridge over the Mississippi River from Lansing to Wisconsin is taking more “bridge” shape.
Hjelmstad adds there’s plenty of construction activity on the Iowa side of the river, too.
The Mississippi River bridge at Lansing is to be completed by Fall 2026, with the Highway 3 bridge in Waverly to be finished by this fall.
