It was on January 30th that 0pen burning bans went into effect in Floyd, Howard, Bremer, Winneshiek and Delaware counties.
Burn bans in Franklin, Buchanan, Clayton and Grundy counties were activated on January 31st.
On February 3rd, a burn ban in Kossuth County was approved by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Those burn bans remain in effect and as of 11 am Monday (02.10), there were still burn bans in effect in 14 counties in Iowa.
The burn bans came in the wake of continued dry conditions, which have not improved since. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa out last Thursday (02.06) rated all of north central and northeast Iowa in the D1 category for moderate drought.
