Floyd, Franklin, Winneshiek County Burn Bans Being Lifted in Wake of Winter Storm

The blanket of new snow this week is resulting in the lifting of several burn bans across the region that had been in effect for almost two weeks.
Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Jason Webster says the State Fire Marshal’s Office approved the lifting of the county’s open burning ban as of noon Wednesday (02.12). The burn ban had been in effect since January 30th.
Winneshiek County’s burn ban was lifted as of 9 am Wednesday morning after also being active since January 30th. A burn ban that went into effect on January 31st in Franklin County was lifted as of 8 am Wednesday.
Hardin County’s burn ban was also lifted Wednesday morning, while a burn ban in Kossuth County was deactivated on Monday (02.10)
As of 4 pm Wednesday, there were still seven burn bans still in effect in Iowa, including Bremer, Howard, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware and Grundy counties.
Last week’s U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa rated all of north central and northeast Iowa in the D1 category for moderate drought. The latest report is due out Thursday (02.13).
