Area City Officials Offer Snow Removal Reminders

With the lack of snow for most of this winter, some residents might have forgotten parking and snow removal regulations in light of the snowfall on Wednesday (02.12).

Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson says CCPD would prefer NOT to issue you a citation for not moving your vehicle for City crews to plow streets.

Anderson says there are also guidelines for clearing snow from your sidewalks in Charles City.

The City of New Hampton is reminding residents that they can “avoid a $25 parking fine by not parking on City streets between the hours of 6 pm on the day of said snow fall until 7 am the following day or until the streets have been completely plowed from curb to curb.”

It’s a New Hampton property owner’s responsibility to remove snow, ice, or accumulations within 48 hours of the snowfall from sidewalks. If the accumulations are not cleared, the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner.

The snow is being followed by some bitterly cold temperatures, with New Hampton Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl advising proper preparedness for travel in these conditions.

Snowfalls Wednesday averaged about two inches across much of northeast Iowa. More snow is expected Friday (02.14) afternoon into Saturday (02.15).
