...SIGNIFICANT BLOWING SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING...

.Very strong winds will develop Tuesday evening with the
strong wind gusts persisting into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts over
50 mph are expected. Much of the area has 6 inches or more of snow
on the ground. While there may be an initial crust on the top layer
of the snow, it will erode quickly leading to significant blowing and
drifting of snow. Near white-out and blizzard conditions may occur.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Light snow and snow showers
are possible. Winds gusts over 50 mph are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest,
and west central Iowa.

* WHEN...From late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Whiteout conditions are
possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially nearly
impossible and life-threatening. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down
tree branches.

New Hampton Native Named New Parkersburg Chief of Police

A New Hampton native has been tabbed to become the new Chief of Police in Parkersburg.

Bruce Tierney, a 2003 New Hampton High School grad, will take over as Parkersburg Police Chief the first week of March. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Tierney, who was a Parkersburg Police Officer from 2010 to 2015.

Tierney started his career in law enforcement in 2008 with the Hudson Police Department where he successfully graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2009. In 2010, Tierney was hired by the Parkersburg Police Department and then joined the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in 2015.  

In September 2023, Tierney accepted his current job as a deputy with the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office.
