Senior Citizen Lifetime Pass Program Expanding in New Hampton School District

The Senior Citizen Pass program for those 60-and-older to attend activities in the New Hampton School District for free is being expanded.

The school has been issuing a lifetime pass to anyone who lives in the district who reaches the age of 60.  However, High School Principal Matt Manson asked the New Hampton School Board Monday (02.17) night to consider extending the program to select senior citizens outside of the district.

Manson noted he doesn’t expect a huge increase in the number of Senior Citizen passes issued, but they can have an impact on activity revenue.

The Board unanimously approved a new policy, with the stipulation that now requires that senior citizens requesting the free activity pass provide documentation of a student’s graduation from NHCSD.

The Senior Citizen Pass is only valid for home events and will not cover prepaid events, such as musicals and special events. The pass will not be valid for state events.

In other business this week, the School Board gave their official approval of the contract of Erik Smith to take over as Superintendent July 1st. With Smith, currently the Superintendent for AGWSR, also being shared with the Turkey Valley School District, the Turkey Valley School Board will also need to give their official approval of Smith’s contract.

He will replace outgoing shared Superintendent Jay Jurrens who is retiring.
