Recent snowfalls followed by the cold snap has made clearing roads a bit more challenging for Iowa DOT crews.
Pete Hjelmstad with the DOT’s Mason City District office says road salt isn’t highly effective when the surface temperatures of the road itself is below 15 degrees.
With a warmup coming, Hjelmstad cautions for the development of “road frost.”
