North Iowa Teen Dies in Two-Vehicle Weekend Crash

A North Iowa teenager is dead following a single-vehicle weekend wreck about 20 miles north of Mason City.
The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the fatal crash occurred shortly after 6:30 am Saturday (03.01) morning at the intersection of 410th Street and Killdeer Avenue in Worth County. A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by 20-year-old Blair Hansen of St. Ansgar, was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road, entered the north ditch and struck a utility pole.
Hansen, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries in the crash and he was transported by Mercy AirMed to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment.
ISP says a passenger in the car, 16-year-old Ayden Steele, also of St. Ansgar. was also wearing a seatbelt, but did not survive the crash.
Also assisting at the scene were the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Kensett and Northwood fire departments, Northwood EMS, and Alliant Energy.
The wreck remains under investigation.
