St. Ansgar, Central Springs, North Butler, Denver School Districts Ask Voters to Approve PPELs Tuesday (03.04)
Several area school districts will be asking voters on Tuesday (03.04) to approve levies to help pay for infrastructure upgrades.
In the Central Springs School District, voters will decide on a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) of $1.34 per $1000 of taxable property value, blended with an 8% income surtax. School district officials say it will raise the tax rate an estimated 35-cents per $1000, generating about $600,000 a year for a 10-year period.
The North Butler and Denver school districts are asking stakeholders to renew a PPEL levy not to exceed $1.34 per $1000 taxable property value for 10 years each. PPEL funds can be used for improving and maintaining buildings and grounds, purchase and/or lease technology equipment, and buy school vehicles. Fr North Butler, the PPEL is expected to generate about $207,000 per year.
At Saint Ansgar, voters in the school district are asked to extend the Secure and Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) fund revenue purpose statement as well as the district’s PPEL not to exceed to 67-cents per $1000 of taxable property value for 10 years. It would raise about $412,000 a year. Some specific projects targeted with PPEL funds include the expansion and renovation for Industrial Arts and Agricultural programs, a new wrestling room and a stand-alone weight room on the old bus barn location.
If approved by simple majority vote, all PPEL extensions begin July 1st.
Polls are open for voting in all school districts from 7 am to 8 pm Tuesday.
