The New Hampton City Council this week approved the hiring of Jace Hall to join the New Hampton Police Department.
That’s Mayor Steve Geerts, who says Hall is currently getting his police science degree at Hawkeye Community College and, after he graduates this spring, he’ll head to police academy training to become a certified officer by August.
Geerts says, until Hall is a certified officer, he’ll still be allowed to go on patrol with other certified officers on staff, most likely on weekends for the near future.
Geerts also notes that officer Darby Stone will be the dog’s handler for the NHPD’s new K9 unit.
