One year Later: Charles City Speed Cameras Dismantled, Gone, Not Likely Coming Back

It was a year ago Tuesday (03.11) that four traffic enforcement cameras were activated in Charles City in an effort to crack down on speeding within City limits.
Less than three months later, the City was forced to pull the plug on the devices after new legislation was passed putting tighter restrictions on speed camera implementation, most specifically, not allowing them in cities with populations under 20,000. Mayor Dean Andrews says there’s currently no appetite for the City to pursue them down the road.
Andrews notes there also appears to be an anti-speed camera movement.
The Charles City traffic enforcement cameras have since been dismantled and removed completely, but Andrews says the impact of the devices before and after they were shut down was noticed by Charles City Police.
Andrews adds that, for those seeking a refund after paying a speeding ticket issued because of the speed cameras, that doesn’t appear likely.
