Users of the Tribe Trail in New Hampton now have a new safety feature to help them cross South Linn Avenue (Business Highway 63).
New Hampton Park-Rec Director Tara Hackman says the flashing safety crossing light was activated about two weeks ago.
A ribbon cutting in October 2024 marked the completion of the Tribe Trail, which was first conceived in 2016, with the third and final phase now connecting the Chickasaw Wellness Center on the west side of town to South Linn.
Hackman says more enhancements to that section of the trail are coming.
Hackman says the trail also now features one noticeable addition.
Donors funded about 25% of the project, estimated at a total cost of around $1.2 million, with the majority of funding coming from grants. The price tag crept a little higher after being interrupted by the COVID pandemic and subsequent supply chain issues.
