Marble Rock Man Faces Assault Charges After Victim is Shot in Leg

A North Iowa man is facing assault charges after he was involved in an accidental shooting about 20 miles southwest of Charles City.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says they responded to the 1400 block of 290th Street at about 8 pm Friday (03.21) night for a report of an individual being shot during an assault. Their investigation led to the arrest of 45-year-old Leroy Klink of Marble Rock on charges of domestic abuse assault impeding air flow, a Class D felony, and domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to court documents, at a residence about five miles outside of Marble Rock, Klink’s argument with a female victim turned physical, with Klink allegedly putting his hands around her neck and choking her. Klink then got into an altercation with his father, who attempted to take a firearm away from Klink. Investigators say, during that struggle, the gun was accidentally discharged, with the gunshot striking the woman in the leg.

Klink is also accused of pushing his father into a refrigerator, causing the man a bump on his head and cuts to his face.

FCSO says the woman was transported by ambulance to MercyOne Medical Center in Mason City for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Klink is being held in the Floyd County Jail on a $7,000 cash-only bond and is due for a preliminary hearing next Monday (03.31) in Floyd County District Court.

Also assisting with the incidents were Charles City Police, Butler and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Offices, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DCI, Marble Rock Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and Greene Ambulance.
