No Cases of Measles In Iowa, But County Health Departments Ready “Just in Case”

As of March 28th, there had been 378 confirmed cases of measles across 18 states, with two deaths.

Floyd County Public Health Administrator Gail Arjes told the Board of Supervisors Monday (04.07) that the outbreak has remained to our south, but her department is ready, just in case.

Chickasaw County Public Health Administrator Lisa Welter says cautions people to stay on their toes for measles symptoms.

Because measles can be easily spread, Welter advises, if you think you have measles, calling ahead before seeing your physician to avoid passing the virus to others in the waiting room.

Vaccinations remain highly recommended for children between 12-and-15 months of age, with a second dose between ages four and six.

If you’ve been vaccinated, Welter says boosters are not currently being recommended.
