Charles City Man Gets Federal Prison on Weapons Charge
A Charles City man has been sentenced to almost five years in federal prison on firearm charges.
The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says 32-year-old Dashaune Burns-Johnson brought drugs and a loaded firearm to his neighbor’s house in Charles City on May 22, 2024. Burns-Johnson pulled the firearm out of his backpack and pointed it at someone in the house. Since Burns-Johnson was a previously convicted felon for domestic abuse assault, the incident resulted in a new felony weapons charge.
US District Court Judge Leonard Strand has sentenced Burns-Johnson to 57 months in prison to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
He received the prison term after an October 23, 2024 guilty plea to one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Burns-Johnson is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Charles City Police Department.
