The Floyd County Iowa State University Extension office is raising awareness about the importance of private well maintenance through its Private Well Stewardship Program. In the discussion, ISU Extension and Outreach Water Quality Program Manager Catherine DeLong highlighted the risks associated with untested well water, noting that approximately 230,000 Iowans rely on private wells for their drinking water. DeLong emphasized that annual testing is critical to ensure water safety, as contaminants can go unnoticed without regular checks. The program offers free workshops to educate well owners on testing, maintenance, and available funding for water quality assessments. DeLong encouraged residents to participate in upcoming sessions to safeguard their health and that of their families, pets, and livestock.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
